Some of the Challenges faced when insulating a Flat Metal roof:

• Removing and Replacing the Roof Sheets - Depending on the type of fasteners used, removing and replacing the roof sheet more often than not, takes more time, effort and money than the insulation itself. If normal screw type nails are used, care should be taken that the fasteners be replaced by slightly longer ones to ensure proper lock down of the roof.
• Poor Roof Timber - In the case of older structures, often the roof timber is rotten or broken. If this is the case care should be taken to repair or replace the affected timber. Leaving the timber as is, could be the cause of a lot of problems in terms of waterproofing and the strength of the roof.
• Installing the Insulation - Because of the limitation in term of space, a blanket type insulation is not the solution. It is very difficult to thread the material through the woodwork and inserting it right into the corners. A cellulose insulation, blown in is the ultimate solution, it can be blown into the smallest of spaces and in the most difficult to reach corners.
• Waterproofing - Because all the roof sheets are being removed, extreme care should be take to ensure proper Waterproofing. This will eliminate great headaches in the rainy season.

Low Pitched Roof

Generally Low Pitched are quite difficult to Insulate using any Blanket type material, because of the small space created by the low pitch and the distance from the center of the roof.

The Solution for this type of Roof Structure is to Install a Cellulose Fibre Insulation. It is Installed with a Blower, so it reaches every Corner and difficult to reach places in the roof.

Lofted Room

An Un-Insulated Lofted room can get very hot in summer and cold in winter. This is as a result of rising heat from the house and heat entering through the roof, and in winter, all the heat generated in the house will rise and escape.

To solve this problem one can install a Blanket type insulation like Isotherm before the ceiling is installed. This is done by threading the blanket through the Brandering or Stapling the material as indicated in the picture above. In cases where the ceiling is already Installed, insulation should be installed from the top by removing roof tiles and blowing Cellulose fibre into the cavities.
